Brian Harman’s compositions are frequently inspired by extra-musical ideas such as architecture, dance, human speech and concepts of ritual, and have been performed by such ensembles as Vienna’s Wiener Jeunesse Kammerchor, the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. In 2013 he worked closely with Georges Aperghis at the Impuls Festival (Austria) and was a featured composer in the Soundlab podcast series. His orchestral work Supposed Spaces was selected to be part of Canada’s 2013 submission to World New Music Days, and in 2011 he was a winner in the ISCM International Vocal Music Competition. Brian received his Doctor of Music from McGill University in 2012, and is currently a councilor with the Canadian League of Composers for the Ontario region.
